The BCAC remains busy with a full slate of issues. The organization continues to work with other associations, governing bodies and legislators on a weekly basis, protecting the rights of all segments of the FHV industry.
Currently:
- The BCAC negotiated a six-month extension on a new rule from the NYC TLC that would have created mpg standards for Black Cars – 25 mpg the first year and 30 mpg thereafter. As suitable vehicles and financing are not currently available, the TLC granted the extension, and has agreed to continue talks with the BCAC as the newly revised date (July 1, 2010) approaches.
- In response to an overly-complicated sales tax on service that was passed on Black Cars and Limousines in 2009 – which varies from county to county within New York State and is assessed based on where a particular job starts – the BCAC is fighting to change the legislation to create a much-simpler flat-fee-per-trip tax.
